This project transforms a one-story suburban bungalow into an open urban residence that provides the ideal backdrop for the client’s active social life – without losing the aesthetic integrity of the Jersey Shore bungalow style. The kitchen, bathroom and storage areas are treated as a single independent object, inserted and rotated free form along the grid of the house. An open riser stair, detached from the walls and detailed to show autonomy from the building’s structure, ascends to an open, second storey master bedroom suite.
